Easter on the Homestead: A Reflection on Renewal, Sacrifice, and Grace
The True Meaning of Easter
As we celebrate Easter, it's easy—especially with young children—to focus on the fun, the eggs, and the magic of spring. But it's so important to take a moment and remember the true meaning and purpose of Easter. It's a time for us to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
He paid the price for our sins in full—an undeserved and extravagant act of love from God. Jesus came to live among us because God desires a personal relationship with each of us. He became our bridge, our way back to the Father.
God's Design in Spring: A Season of Renewal
Spring on the homestead is a beautiful and vivid reminder of renewal. We see it all around us—the planting of seeds, the birth of new animals, and the return of life to the land. Each moment reflects God's promise of new beginnings.
Planting seeds is an act of faith, a reminder that God provides. Watching new life emerge—from livestock to the wild rabbits that make their home here on our little patch of sand—is a testament to God’s intricate design. He is the master architect, creating the earth with built-in seasons of restoration.
The Good Shepherd in Our Daily Chores
Jesus is called the Good Shepherd, and I see Him in our daily animal care. There is a deep blessing in tending to our animals—checking the pasture in the morning to see how they fared through the night, feeding and watering them, treating wounds, and watching them grow.
If we care so deeply for our animals, how much more does Jesus care for each of us? He knows our needs, tends to our wounds, and walks with us through each season of life. His care is personal, constant, and full of grace.
The Lamb That Was Slain
Our sheep, in particular, remind me of Jesus as the Lamb of God. His blood, shed so long ago, paid the debt for all our sin. No longer do we need to bring sacrifices for every failure or mistake. Jesus became the final sacrifice—once and for all.
We are not worthy, but He knew that. He went to the cross willingly so that we could be accepted, forgiven, and loved. He offers us not just salvation, but also strength in hardship, joy in the small moments, and peace beyond understanding. Because of Him, we live in gratitude, not in guilt.
Wherever You Are, He is the Hope
I don’t know where you are in your walk today. Maybe you’re tired or burned out. Maybe you’re grieving or weathering a storm. Maybe you’re overflowing with gratitude, or maybe you don’t know Jesus at all.
Wherever you are—He is your hope.
He offers strength for the weary, grace for the broken, and renewal for the soul. Easter is not just a holiday; it's a reminder that we can lay down our old selves and pick up our cross to follow Him.
A Free Homesteading Bible Study
Here at Sandy Patch Ranch, we’re not perfect, and we’re certainly not Bible scholars. But we are seeking Jesus daily, growing in His Word, and walking this path the best we can.
This Easter, we’re excited to share a free 7-day Homesteading Bible Study with you. It’s a small way for us to connect our life on the land with our life in Christ. Whether you’re just beginning or have walked with Him for years, we hope it encourages you and helps you grow in your relationship with Him.
You’re Not Alone
If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we encourage you to seek out a local church or Bible-based community. And if you do know Him, be bold in discipling others—because we all need Jesus, and we all need each other.
We pray this Easter fills your heart with the joy of His resurrection, the peace of His presence, and the hope of His promises. Spend time with family, reflect on the glory of God, and rest in the love He’s poured out through the sacrifice of His only Son.
Happy Easter from our family to yours. May your journey in homesteading be blessed by the Lord’s abundant provision.
